Abstract
To investigate the correlation between atherosclerosis (AS) and intracranial aneurysm
rupture. Methods: One hundred and twenty cases with intracranial aneurysm were included, which were
divided into ruptured group (n=99) and unruptured group (n=21). Clinic data was collected and retrospectively
analyzed. The related risk factors of intracranial aneurysms rupture were analyzed by χ 2 test. The correlation
between AS and intracranial aneurysm rupture was analyzed. Results: The gender, personal history of drinking
and smoking, history of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and the sites and the size of intracranial
aneurysms were the risk factors for intracranial aneurysm rupture (P<0.05). AS was more likely to be detected in
intracranial aneurysm patients with arteriostenosis, early vascular endothelial injury and inflammatory response
(P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis results showed that AS was one of the main factors influencing
the rupture of intracranial aneurysms. Conclusion: The gender, personal history of drinking and smoking,
history of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and the site and the size of intracranial aneurysms were
the risk factors for intracranial aneurysm rupture. AS may be associated with intracranial aneurysm rupture.
