Ischemic stroke is characterized by high morbidity and disability rates. Recent studies have revealed
that trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a metabolite derived from gut microbiota, promotes the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis, enhances platelet reactivity, and increases thrombotic risk. This review summarizes
the current research progress on the role of TMAO in ischemic stroke.
